West Ham players the big winners from Euro 2016 shambles. Spurs players were pathetic.
http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/06/28/spurs-are-biggest-losers-but-west-ham-the-real-winners-after-eng/

If Tottenham Hotspur were the biggest losers then West Ham United were the biggest winners after England were sent packing from Euro 2016.

Roy Hodgson resigned after his side crashed out of Euro 2016 with a 2-1 defeat to Iceland in what goes down as one of the most embarrassing nights in English football history.

England limped into the last 16 after toiling to a second place finish in the group stages behind Wales.

That failure saw them entered into the perceived tougher side of the draw where it looked like they would face Portugal until a late goal from Iceland in their last group game.

But it only provided the platform for the Three Lions to truly embarrass a nation against one of the minnows of international football.

West Ham fans

Hodgson failure proves Hammers right?

One thing it has done, though, is prove Hodgson could have done a lot worse than listen to the advice of West Ham fans and several pundits when it came to his squad selection.

Not a single Hammers player made the cut despite recording their best ever Premier League points tally last season and mounting a genuine challenge for Champions League football.

While the East Londoners have a number of players who staked a strong claim for inclusion by the Three Lions boss, none were deemed up to the task by the former Fulham boss.

Hammers fans did not take kindly to Hodgson's blind spot for their club.

England's Harry Kane looks dejected

West Ham blind spot was Spurs hot spot

It did not help that Hodgson decided to include a host of players from West Ham's bitter rivals Spurs in the team, with the likes of Harry Kane wildly underperforming throughout.

It was felt skipper Mark Noble - who has been compared to Spain great Iniesta by David James - was worthy of a place in the squad as stats showed he outperformed every other England squad midfielder in key areas while Aaron Cresswell was the outstanding English left back in the top flight last season.

Then there was Michail Antonio who could have been a revelation for Hodgson's side in France with his pace, power, energy, skill, workrate and finishing prowess.

Antonio ended the season with 15 goals and assists for West Ham - despite only beginning his Hammers career halfway through the season. And the versatile powerhouse has also been deployed as a makeshift right back for much of that time.

He was five clear of Liverpool's Adam Lallana (10), Manchester City's Raheem Sterling (9), Red Devils youngster Marcus Rashford (6) and relegated Magpies winger Andros Townsend (6).

West Ham's Andy Carroll

'Crying out for Carroll'

And what of Andy Carroll? Just last week former England boss Glenn Hoddle criticised Hodgson for not bringing the big target man with him to the Euros.

England spent most of their time taking pot shots from distance, wasting set pieces or lobbing long balls up to the ineffective Harry Kane during their time in France.

Everyone could see the Three Lions were crying out for someone like Carroll, after all almost every nation at the Euros had at least one big target man in their side, many to great effect.

Those Hammers have become even better players without kicking a ball in anger this summer.

Many of the club's fans are delighted to see the back of Hodgson.

What DJ actually said when he compared Noble to Iniesta, was "Iniesta is infinitely better than Mark Noble".

I'm looking forward to seeing Reece Burke...I think he will be a future international

Byram - Burke - Tomkins - Cresswell
- Oxford -

Not a bad potential back 5...if it ever happens

As much as I like and admire Noble - I'm not one of his detractors on here now I'm beginning to understand why David James was declared bankrupt.

Put down the crack pipe ffs

Right back is the lest of our problems. Both Walker and Clyne were not bad at all. I actually thought Clyne looked more dangerous when he pushes up. Can't say I've noticed how good they are at defending though. Bilic has got me looking only at a full backs ability to overlap.

Very true El, but still a positive above the rest.
Says it all doesn't it?

Don't think Walker was all that personally either.

Superb at getting up and down the wing, but very little final ball/end product in the attacking third of the pitch.

Actually I'm still stunned how inept Hodgson is. Kane taking set pieces...says it all. Yes the Iceland game was crying for someone like Carroll to come on.

Bobby Charlton was asked how he thought the England team of '66 would have fared against Iceland. " I think we'd have won 1-0 " he replied. "Only 1-0?" Said the reporter. "Yes," said Bobby. "Most of us are in our 70's now!"

Find it funny the journos prior to the tournament were saying Carroll shouldn't be in the squad. Never understood the inclusion of Rashford unless you were going to give him some proper game time so made total sense to take someone like Carroll who wouldn't expect to start but be an impact sub in games like against Iceland.

Still, the next manager won't learn and I doubt much will change.

When West Ham had 3 players in the England side we won the World Cup
When Spurs had 5 players in the England side we lost to Iceland.
Says it all.

There is only one player to mention from the team that went to France, and that's Kyle Walker.
The rest was fucking gash.
The the biggest letdowns were Kane, Hart and Shrek.

Let's hope England recruit a proper manager after Downs Hodgon.

I'll happily add my voice to those saying they are absolutely delighted that not one of our English players has had their reputation stained by the country's most recent footballing debacle.

I am SOO pleased none of our players have been tainted by this debacle.

and in the spirit of fairness I have to say I thought Eric Dier did very well and 'Broadway' Danny Rose impressed me with his strength on the ball and timing of his runs.

Maybe a bit far fetched but we certainly would have done no worse if all the West Ham players mentioned had been subbed into the squad one way or another.

England weren't as bad as people are making out though. They dominated in all their matches, and if just a couple more chances had gone in it would have been very different.
